New help with electricity bills for 10,000 businesses

New help with electricity bills for 10,000 businesses background

The Government has confirmed that electricity bills will be cut by up to 25% for more than 10,000 manufacturers under the expanded British Industrial Competitiveness Scheme:

The Department for Business & Trade has widened the scheme beyond what was originally consulted on, meaning more energy‑intensive businesses will now be eligible for support from April next year.

For sectors such as steel, chemicals, glass, food & drink, and pharmaceuticals, this could mean a material reduction in electricity costs — up to 25% for around 10,000 firms, compared with the 7,000 originally expected to qualify.

However, the detail matters.

The new scheme is complex, the eligibility tests are tighter than many expect, and the forecast annual cost of £600M means that a significant number of businesses will still fall outside the criteria.

Managing Director, Nersi Salehi, says:

“For energy‑intensive manufacturers, understanding the rules, and how your organisation is classified, will be essential to securing the maximum benefit.

“At Pro Enviro, we can help you interpret the scheme, assess your eligibility, and identify the wider actions that will reduce your energy costs and carbon footprint, with or without government support.
