Government-Backed Low Carbon Process Optimisation

Decarbonisation does not have to be a cost to businesses; our approach is to link decarbonisation with energy and cost reduction and improved productivity. We focus on practical business centred objectives, setting realistic and achievable decarbonisation plans.

During January & February, we can offer fully funded* bespoke support to Energy Intensive Companies in The Black Country, Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Worcestershire, Marches, Staffordshire and Warwickshire to set you on the path to decarbonisation, energy cost reduction and improved productivity.

*Funded through DESNZ/BEAS programme and managed by West Midlands Combined Authority.

 

                       

 

The Decarbonisation Process Optimisation Strategy will include:

  • Visual analysis of macro energy consumption data via the dedicated, secure Energy and Carbon Portal.
  • Identification of non-productive usage and follow-on deployment of micro-metering to address behavioural/systemic inefficiencies.
  • Analysis of your energy bills - expert consultancy support on how you may reduce your energy costs without the need for capital expenditure.
  • ISO50001 benchmarking of your processes to assess your baseline performance.
  • DESNZ-funded energy assessment of your site, with a focus on cost reductions and productivity improvements.
  • Ability to access and update your data via the secure Energy and Carbon Portal to track progress until end of May 2026.
  • A low carbon strategic report, which can facilitate future grant funding.

Envirotrack

Utilise half-hourly metered data to analyse and visualise the flow of energy via the secure Energy & Carbon Portal

  • Pinpoint excessive baseload consumption and anomalous patterns
  • Visualise operational procedures and start-up sequences
  • Help manage your data with granularity and precision

 

 

Micro-metering

  • Identify non-productive consumption and costs of energy intensive equipment and help eliminate waste.
  • Accurately identify the energy cost, kWh and CO2 emission of each item of energy intensive plant per shift, per day/month or per annum.
  • Develop a strategy for plant replacement by developing a league table for the most efficient to least efficient plant.
  • Identify systemic inefficiencies between day and night shifts.
  • Develop robust Low Carbon process optimisation and net-zero carbon strategies.

 

 

Developing and Embedding Low Carbon Process Optimisation Strategy

 

ISO 50001 compliant benchmarking provides the critical framework and evidence base to transition from informal initiatives to a recognised system of continuous improvement.

  • Establish a credible, documented baseline
  • Uncover actionable insights to eliminate waste
  • Integrate energy management into company performance

 

 

Eligibility criteria

The offer is available in January and February only, on a first come first basis subject to the following eligibility criteria:

  • Qualify as an SME -  

maximum 249 full-time employees, turnover less than £42 million or a balance sheet less than £36 million*

  • Have an annual energy consumption of over 750,000 kWh*
  • Be responsible for paying the business’s energy bills
  • Be a commercial entity / profit-seeking enterprise
  • Operate a commercial address for at least 12 months

 

* An individually registered company (that meets SME criteria) within a group of companies may still qualify.
