Environmental Product Declarations

Helping manufacturers create independently verified EPDs for procurement and compliance requirements.

What is an Environmental Product Declaration?

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardised, independently verified document that sets out the environmental impact of a product across its entire life cycle, from raw material extraction through manufacturing, transportation, use, and end-of-life disposal or recycling.

EPDs are based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculations and are internationally recognised under ISO 14025. They are typically valid for five years and must be verified by an independent third party to be accepted by certification schemes, regulations, and procurement frameworks.

BREEAM and sustainability ratings

While EPDs are not currently mandatory in the UK construction sector, they are increasingly required by clients seeking BREEAM ratings and other sustainability certifications. An independently verified EPD is a credible, comparable statement of a product's environmental credentials that architects, engineers, and specifiers can rely on.

Why develop an EPD?

Supply chain transparency

Give customers and procurement teams the verified carbon data they need to make informed product specifications.

Competitive differentiation

An independently verified EPD demonstrates environmental commitment in a way that unverified LCA claims cannot.

Tender and procurement

Increasingly required in construction and manufacturing procurement, particularly for clients with sustainability targets.

Carbon reduction insight

The LCA process identifies where in your production chain the greatest carbon reduction opportunities exist.

Scope 3 reporting

EPD data helps your customers accurately account for the emissions associated with purchasing your products in their own Scope 3 reporting.

International recognition

ISO 14025-based EPDs are recognised across international markets, supporting export and global supply chain requirements.

How Pro Enviro supports you

Working closely with your management and operations teams, our consultants develop the scoped emissions profile and Life Cycle Assessment that forms the basis of your EPDs. We guide you through the full process from data collection and LCA development through to third-party verification and publication, and provide ongoing consultancy on where production chain emissions can be reduced.

Our EPD work aligns with standards including EN 15978, EN 15804, ISO 21931-1, ISO 21930, BREEAM, and LEED, ensuring the outputs are recognised across the certification and procurement frameworks your customers use.
