Most manufacturers know how much electricity they use each month. Far fewer know exactly where it goes. Site-level meter data tells you the total - it does not tell you how much each piece of equipment, process, or shift is responsible for. Without that detail, energy management decisions are based on assumption rather than evidence.
A micro metering survey changes that. By installing temporary sub-meters across your site and analysing the resulting data alongside your half-hourly site meter readings, Pro Enviro builds a detailed picture of energy consumption at plant and process level. That data underpins a wide range of services - from regulatory applications where the figures have to be defensible, to process optimisation work where understanding the baseline is the essential first step.
CARRIED OUT IN-HOUSE
Pro Enviro's micro metering surveys are designed and carried out entirely in-house. The same team that installs the meters analyses the data and produces the recommendations, ensuring continuity and accuracy throughout.
What a survey involves
We install temporary sub-meters on individual plant items, circuits, and processes across your site. The meters collect consumption data at 30-minute intervals, aligned with the half-hourly data from your site's main meter. Once the metering period is complete, we combine both data sets to build site-wide and equipment-specific energy profiles
The analysis identifies how much energy each process draws, when it draws it, and how that relates to your production activity and shift patterns. From there we can run what-if modelling to assess the likely impact of operational changes, equipment upgrades, or shift pattern adjustments before any investment is made.
Findings are delivered in a clear presentation covering the consumption data, identified inefficiencies, what-if scenarios, and a set of prioritised recommendations.

Where micro metering is used
A micro metering survey is a component of several Pro Enviro services, and can also be commissioned as a standalone exercise.
BICS banding calculations
Accurate process-level consumption data is required to substantiate which relief band applies under BICS. Sub-metering is the most defensible method of evidencing the proportion of eligible manufacturing use.
MinMet CCL apportionment
MinMet relief applies only to energy used in qualifying processes. Apportioning consumption on a fair and reasonable basis requires metered data at process level, not estimates from site-level bills.
CCA 70/30 assessment and 3/7ths provision
To determine whether a site's eligible installation meets the 70% threshold, or to substantiate an additional claim under the 3/7ths provision, both the installation and the additional energy must be separately sub-metered.
ESOS energy audits
ESOS audits require a detailed breakdown of energy consumption by asset, process, and building. Micro metering provides the granular consumption data that underpins a thorough and defensible audit.

By understanding exactly how much energy each process or piece of equipment draws, and when, we can model the impact of operational changes before they are made, identifying the most cost-effective route to efficiency improvement.

What the data makes possible
Process-level consumption data is qualitatively different from site-level billing data. It makes it possible to:
- Attribute energy costs accurately to individual products, processes, or production lines
- Identify equipment that is consuming energy outside production hours
- Compare the energy efficiency of similar machines or processes
- Build a defensible evidence base for regulatory applications including BICS, MinMet, CCA, and ESOS
- Quantify the energy and cost impact of specific operational changes before committing to them

WHAT-IF ANALYSIS
One of the most valuable outputs of a micro metering survey is the ability to model scenarios. If a process runs for two fewer hours per shift, or a piece of equipment is replaced with a more efficient alternative, the data allows us to calculate the likely saving with a level of precision that is not possible from site-level data alone..
