ABOUT THE CLUSTER

The Black Country Industrial Cluster (BCIC) is a not-for-profit organisation, founded by Black Country manufacturers, that supports, informs, and represents local industry through the transition to net zero. Formed from the legacy of the Repowering the Black Country project, it is the UK’s only inland strategic industrial cluster, covering Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton, and gives dispersed manufacturing supply chains a clear voice in energy and industrial policy.

Leadership from Pro Enviro

Pro Enviro has been part of the cluster’s story from the start, having delivered the Repowering the Black Country project it grew out of. Our Managing Director, Nersi Salehi, sits on the board as a Director, helping set the cluster’s strategy and represent Black Country manufacturers at both regional and national level. It is a role that reflects three decades of Pro Enviro’s work in energy-intensive industry, and a firm belief that decarbonisation and competitiveness go hand in hand.

How Pro Enviro contributes

As a specialist energy engineering partner to the cluster, Pro Enviro turns strategy into delivery. We deliver energy audits, helping manufacturers understand their emissions, set validated targets, and embed a low carbon strategy.

Energy-intensive sites get further support to cut consumption at the process level, with grant-funded automated monitoring and targeting and net-zero action planning to turn recommendations into measurable savings.

A voice at national level

The Black Country has been named one of the UK’s “big six” industrial clusters and features in UK Research and Innovation’s national plan for industrial cluster decarbonisation. Through the cluster, Pro Enviro helps shape that national conversation, advocating for the dispersed supply chains and smaller manufacturers that sit outside the coastal clusters, and developing a model other regions can follow.

Part of Black Country industry, or building a cluster elsewhere?

Whether you are a Black Country manufacturer or an organisation driving industrial decarbonisation in another region, Pro Enviro can help.
